FYI - if you revert back to the old plugin (for whatever reason), you can't open a max file saved with the new plugin. This may be the same with the other 3d programs out there.

Most and infact many other apps besides 3d. New functionality or depth to the file would obviously create inconsistancies and most developers want to move on and loose support for old virgins!

This has been the case with many of the plug-in updates we've released, and with all the engine updates. Maintaining forward compatibility is in most cases difficult, and in some cases impossible, and it would consume valuable time which could be spent adding features instead.
