I export from Revit to FBX file and import to MAX... I get a number of multimats but with many common submats...
For example the double opening door and the single opening door have the same aluminum frame and of course the same glass material but I have to define them twice... Imagine a model with 30 materials...

One solution is to make all the mats I need and then from the material library import as an instance to all submats, one by one.

Anything better?

P.S. I know it is not a maxwell problem but I would appreciate some help because it is a time consuming procedure

Great Idea, I will try it ASAP!

****Update ****

No, it doesn't seem to work... creating a new material with the same name. Maybe the put to scene doesn't affect multimats...
BUT!!! Using your idea, I think I found the answer... I open one of the multimats, I drag 'n drop the submat I want to change to a new slot and I choose "Instance" when the dialog appears... Then I make it a Maxwell material and when I open another multimat that contains the submat, I see it 's been updated...

Thanks, your idea was great!
