Cool idea - thanks for sharing it.

Two things so far: it doesn't seem to quite match exactly between viewport and render (at least in my test) and I managed to dock the toolbar on the side of my workspace and cannot figure out how to undock it. Is there a way to make it floating again? (I realize this is more of a Max question, but would appreciate some advice :) ) I'd rather not have it always floating in the way - it would be nice to be able to add it to a normal toolbar so I could hide it away as needed.

I'll have a look at the 2012 problem. You can uninstall it by going to the folder
C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME HERE\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2012 - 64bit\enu\scripts\startup

substitute your windows user name in the path above in the spot indicated. You can remove it from 2013 or any other version by deleting it from the corresponding folder.

You are right, you need to turn it off before rendering or else you're image will be extra tall or wide or both.

Thanks again for making this available :)

I'm not looking to uninstall it per se, just undock it from my workspace, where it is currently locked in. Is there a way to do that without uninstalling?

Regarding the alignment thing: here is an example of how the alignment is not working quite right:

The Max toolbar docking is a little, um, difficult from a user perspective, and I haven't found a way to make it any friendlier. To undock it manually, here's what to do, I'll try and make it into a button to make it easier.

Close Max first.
Then open this file in a text editor:
C:\Users\YOUR WINDOWS USER NAME HERE\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2013 - 64bit\ENU\en-US\plugcfg\camera+.ini
subsitute your windows user name above, and possibly change the Max version if you aren't using 2013.
With that file open, change everything that says "dockstate=xxxxx" (it won't say xxxx but instead something like dock_top)
make it say "dockstate=floating". Save that file, and reopen max and it should be floating again.

You may be able to avoid all that by carefully moving your mouse around the toolbar, sometimes Max gives you a little bitty place where you can grab it and drag it off the toolbar.

I'll look into putting the buttons on a regular toolbar in the next round.

I see what you mean about the accuracy, I think I've spotted a bug in how I'm calculating the shift, hopefully I'll have a fix soon.

awesome, thanks both of you guys for posting your experiences so far. I did find a bug in the offset calc, here's an updated version to try out: http://emdesignviz.com/downloads/camera+_1_0.mzp

simmsimaging, does that match up better for you?

Fernando, I haven't been able to recreate the problem with max2012, it's working fine here. Did you find the script in the place I pointed to in order to delete it? Have you modified any of the system folders since installing? I see you are in Madrid, did you install the Spanish language version of Max? I'm working on a US-English install, maybe that would mess up something at startup, hard to say.

Anyone else reading have trouble with Max2012 (or anything else)?

I put up a small update to the camera offset script:
  • Added dialog to adjust camera parameters without changing exposure - good for changing fStop without changing overall exposure.
  • Added support for viewport regions - turning on and off the offset (as before) adjusts the region to suit the offset. You can change the region with it offset and it will reverse adjust when you turn off the offset. So it will looks "wrong" if you don't have the offset on, but the render in Maxwell will be of the correct region.
I have more info online, or you can download it directly.

Let me know of any bugs or improvements!
