#351694
Hello, I have imported a .dwg into 3ds Max Design that was exported from Revit for rendering via Maxwell. My problem is that when I assign a material to an object, for instance a wall or a floor, 3ds Max assigns said material to multiple, or rather, all similar walls/floors. Is there a way in 3ds Max to change how material assignments are handled, so I can use a different material for individual walls/floors? I suppose my workaround could be to go back into Revit and use a different wall/floor type, but I'd rather not if I don't have to, and it would help me to understand 3ds Max a little better if I could figure out why this occurs.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks in advance

Sounds like a model issue. Are you converting existing materials into maxwell materials, or are you creating new maxwell materials and assigning them to the selected object in the max scene?

Revit imports are notorious for quirky shit depending on how they've been constructed in Revit and transfered to Max. I've seen a lot of heavily instanced Revit models imported to max through standard fbx transfer that cause all kinds of issues.

Sounds like a bottle neck in the pipe prior to rendering...... I'd retrace a few steps.

This is really strange... try to make a new scene, 2 floors + 2 walls.... Export to dwg and import or link to MAX...
Check the export settings dialog from Revit...
If F1 and F2 have a white paint material then the Maxwell white paint material will be assigned automatically to both... if you change one, then of course the other will be updated... If F1 is white and F2 is red, then it is impossible for Max to change the red material just because both F1 and F2 are floors...
I can't understand what you're doing... Make a small scene and if you want, I can open it in RAC 2012 and test it...

I'm going to shot to a more basic level (I'm assuming you don't know much of 3dsmax): are you sure the walls are not the same object? Depending on how you import them it could be that you are deriving objects from revit materials which means that every revit object that have the same material applyed will be converted to one object in 3dsmax. If you go to subobject level > elements you will be able to select each object separatedly.
You also have other options when importing: for example derive one 3dsmax object per Revit object.

Another posibility could be that you are just changing the material definition instead of assigning a new different material which would change the material for every object that has it applyed.
