Is there a bug that does not show maps in 3ds max viewport when "smooth+highlights" is on?
Faces with maxwell material that have checked "show map in viewport" simply become 100% transparent (invisible)

This does not happens in other type of shading, as "hidden line".

This happens with directx 9 and not with directx 10 and not with openGL ............ but i'm forced to use dx9, because with complex scenes is really faster than dx10 (opengl runs fast but has serious problems on texture tiling).

This happens in all pc. They have diffrent Os (vista 64, xp64..) and diffent graphic card (nvidia quadro fx, ati..).

I know that dialogue between Application and Graphic accelerator + configuration is a "bad" theme. :)

Do you have any suggestion?
Do you perfectly display maxwell materials in viewport?
I'm losing time trying to set graphic settings in 3ds max, in nvidia control panel and so on? ..
well .. i really don't know
thank you

Hi and sorry for late reply. This happens in every scene.
(also a cube floating in "nothing around")

So.. if someone see textures when smooth+highlights is active.. i think it's my configuration wrong.

bwt i'll send u a scene + screenshot of my 3ds as soon as possible.

Thank you very much.

Hi Bogdan, i sent you max file + screenshoot "how i see objects in viewport".

...... and a strange thing: all i said in posts before is now swapped (after updating windows with standard microsoft updates.. including framework and so on..) :| :| :|

i upgraded maxwell also to 2v.01, but max plugin still the same (023), so i really don't know the exact reason.

In your screenshot, I see you have textures displayed in viewport when Smooth+Highlights is active. So, after updating drivers and window, I take it that it's working for you now?

Right Bogdan.
After windows update smooth+highlights turns ok, but now no way to see textures in other modes (and before update textures were visible only in "hidden lines mode").

In this Windows update, video card driver was not updated.

Aha. Now it's working as expected. Let me explain it a bit:

When using a 3dsmax Standard Material with a Bitmap node on the diffuse channel, and you check "Show Standard Map in Viewport" on the bitmap, you will always see the texture in viewport regardless the display mode (hidden lines, flat, edges faces etc). The same thing happens with a MaxwellMaterial if you check "Show In Viewport" on the MaxwellBitmap level. (see bellow picture)

Image

Now, if you want to see the entire material in viewport, not just only one bitmap, you'll press "Show Standard Map in Viewport" for the entire material, both when using a Standard Material or a MaxwellMaterial. The difference is that Standard Material will display only the texture from the diffuse channel even if you have bitmaps on other channels. There is no blend of any kind. MaxwellMaterial will try to blend all bitmaps it has and that's why it works only when Smooth+Highlights is set. This is a 3dsmax limitation, since it never calls our core to draw the map in viewport when you don't have Smooth+Highlights set, so we can't do anything about it.
