To me this is strange: WARNING: - Can't read referenced material file: /Users/adenshillito/Documents/maya/projects/default/sourceimages/ It looks like it's looking for a null material file or a file with an empty name. It should display the name of the file there. Could you copy the scene into a new...

Thank you Nasok, It looks nice. Are you using some software like Retinizer or similar? What usually happens is that the text is scaled correctly, but frames that contain them not (which are defined by pixel) so the text gets big inside a small frame. In the last release we made some changes so Qt (t...

Yes, thank you Choo-chee, That bug is already fixed for the upcoming version (along with some new improvements and many other bug fixes). What I had reported to the developer was this: "When doing a region render, the render works correctly; after it stops, the image should be sent to the frame buff...

Hello, Actually we have to make some changes from our side to make it look perfect. There is one thing that can be done that will make Maxwell Render look fine, but won't be a good solution for Studio as the OpenGL viewport won't scale accordingly and will look like a quarter of it. Adding a variabl...

Hi, Actually it does not work like that Nasok. The Release license button in the different plugins only frees the license in that session so other computer can pick it up (in the case of floating licenses). The same computer will use it if you try to launch a render. What you have to do is remove th...

I would try to check in Windows Resources Monitor to see which apps are actually using the network and how much they are doing it.

That is so weird... Have you tried connecting the laptop to a different network to see if it still happens? Just to rule out some kind of network/router configuration or security system specific of your local network.

Hello Feynman, Is the same thing happening to all the users? Do they share the same preferences? When re-installing Maxwell, did you remove the preferences files from C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Maxwell\studioprefs_v4.ini ? Some things that could be pulling from a network location could be the Res...

 by Forum Moderator ¦  Mon Oct 08, 2018 1:51 pm ¦  Forum: Maxwell | Maya ¦  Topic: spotlight vs classic light ¦  Replies: 2 ¦  Views: 4475

When you assign a spotlight (or IES light) to any geometry, it will point down with respect to its creation position. If you then rotate the geometry, it will follow its transformations. The area lights, on the other hand, will always emit light from the normals side.

I would rule out anything related to the licenses, as they are not constantly checked; only when Studio or Maxwell are started or when launching a render from a plugin. I am constantly connected to internet and I guess most of the users are too; we would have gotten many reports from the users if th...

If you open a command line window, go to Maxwell folder and type maxwell -h you get a full list of all the commands available, in case you need them.

Cheers!

Hi Feynman, I cannot reproduce what you describe here. I'm not sure what's causing all those lags, but that's not normal. I have recorded a video showing how Studio performs here in my machine (no fancy hardware): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1x-Xka9zCoSBXxDvw4tq0_zqJXGLWNRXj/view?usp=sharing In ...

You can also remove or rename that particular extension from the extensions folder in Maxwell. It's not very elegant, but it works.

Hi, I'm not sure if you refer to the Subdivision modifier or the smoothing of the surface (the one that depends on the angles of the faces' normals). In both cases, there's no command currently for that, but you can disable the extensions globally using -disableextensions , but that will disable all...

Hi Choo-chee, It looks you are facing the worst situation for raytracers: caustics behind glass produced by small lights (big ligths would solve this problem). I would try hiding the glasses to Global Illumination (GI). That would cause them not to cast shadows, so some of the effect will be lost (t...
