I get this every Blue moon it seems like.
same symptoms, its rendering a previos Preview.mxs file from an earlier time or project, hasppens to me on the same project too.

I find If i just save close maya, restart, and open the scen again TWICE it usually does the trick.

Its very rare tough probalby ony happend once in the last month (Knock on wood).
