Now that we don't have QuickTime in ArchiCAD 18, what it best file format to use for rendering an animation with Maxwell ?

Doesn't matter - Maxwell with a AC produce only sequence of bitmaps, mxs/mxi files. You have to use this bitmap set in software like Windows Movie Maker or Adobe Premiere then.
