I've been using this website as a reference for my traditional painting for many years because it's primary focus is on the medium of watercolors -- however there is a ton of good information there about color and color theory in general that I think Maxwell users might find valuable:

If you want to really understand how color works you will have a hard time finding a better reference... It is geared towards technically-minded and precision-oriented people.
