I have been battling this thing for a solid week now..and with little success. My regular machine is in the shop getting upgraded and an older one I plugged in got infected.
Been following various tech forum suggestions but none have worked yet. Looks like a complete reformat and system install will have to be done. But I am wondering if there is a software package than can actually prevent a reinfection? After firing up this computer I installed SuperAntiSpyware Pro, Malwarebytes' Anti_Malware and AVG Anti Virus, I also run Firefox with AdwarePlus, and a couple others that are supposted to block unwanteds...and lastly I run Firefox "Sandoxed" and usually delete the contents after each online session. But obviously none of these things stopped the virus, trojan, malware or whatever the hell it is.
An interesting side note is that Mozilla, SuperAnti, Malwarebytes and Firefox all provide user forums where they send you for support. Sort of like giving a bunch of kids a vacant lot to hang out in and kick dirt clumps around. People like me giving people like me suggestions...not very productive so far.
I've done everything suggested and a few things of my own and the thing keeps coming back. At this point using the internet is nearly useless. Getting to a site can be done if I type in the url but if there is an option to click on for navigation it is hijaked to whoknowswhere.
Just pray you don't get this one, it's a bitch...
