I have been working on some objects where I have used multiple weight maps to define areas of several materials. This allows me to paint my geometry with one map in my model, then take care of all the various materials in the one MXM using weight maps.
What I would love are tow small functionalities:
1. The ability to change the order of layers in my material to keep them together. At present I may add a BSDF layer to one of my weighted materials and it goes to the bottom of the list and I cant drag it to where my other layers for this material is so its gets REALLY confusing.
2. An extension of above > the option to have folders in the list to group your weighted materials.
3. The ability to weight the Folder!!! Not the materials contained.
4. The ability to drag an external existing MXM into a folder.
Example:
Hi-Fi system
Black Plastic (Folder) - weight map
-Diffuse layer 90
-Reflective layer 10
Brushed Metal (Folder) - weight map
-Diffuse layer 80
-Reflective Layer 20
Clear Plastic (Folder) - weight map
-Reflective 50
-Reflective 50
Etc!!!
You can see then how this could easily accommodate the dragging of an external MXM into a folder.
I can just see that it is easy to deal with many components in a scene using one material weighted with differing sub materials. Though sometimes keeping control within one MXM can become a real hassle where numerour materials are being used.
At present my work around is to build an MXM and get it right and then painstakinly rebuild it with the correct order so that later any changes are easy and I don't get lost and turn it to a nightmare.
