This is manual, but that feature is on the wishlist. But it's a dream right now, useful though it may be...

Ernest, you're assuming a certain scale for the scene, which will greatly affect perceived DOF, as you know. Scene scale is still being adjusted. It's not that this camera's DOF isn't working. It's the same as before.

Also it looks like you used a pretty short focal length for those pics so a wide lens at f4 would give very large DOF (no blur).

Regarding light distribution, don't worry about that, it's very good. Better than beta even.

Interface question... Repeat
(maybe I missed the reply in this HUGE thread...:) )

Shadow settings...
Understanding that you can't say much about the sunlight status in RC5...
And understanding that being on a mac, I havn't had access to anything but the beta...

Has there been any improvement to the interface for picking the time of day, time of year, etc. to set the sun position?

ie: City: Denver
Year: 2006
Month: 1
Day: 3
Time: 5:00 pm
Daylight Savings: No

Thanks in advance.

Sorry mverta... are you using the RC5.5 or RC5 version? On the picture there is RC5.5

Mike actually already answered that a bit further up. He said the .5 was an internal designation and that it was still "good 'ol RC5".

EDIT: man, i gotta learn to type these messages quicker...

We have some updates of the core, from RC5.1 to RC5.5b wich is the actual one, but all of them are RC5 with constant improvements / fixes

The iso setting acts as a amplifier of the raw data recorded on the digital chip of your camera. As the iso is increased the data is amplified... and just as with a stereo system... at some point amplification causes problems of distortion.

In the case of a digital camera that distortion is manifest as "color noise" (typically, the blue channel shows this effect to the greatest extent) which can have the affect to appear as increased image graininess.

Adam Trachtenberg wrote: It's been a long time since I've shot film, but ISO has no effect on contrast with digital cameras. Grain, yes.
Nor does it have with film per se. High speed films do tend to have harder contrast, especially for color films, but you can fight that when printing. The good thing with Maxwell is that you can get good images in impossible light situations. True, could be cool to mimic some real life photo effects, but rather as an optional post process. Just imagine : you output mxi image file, then, chose you conversion settings to hdr or ldr image file, with straightforward presets and fine tuning options about dynamics, spectral sensitivity and the like. Imagine presets such as "classical 64 iso ektachrome", "1940's technicolor", "sony pd 100 video camcorder : artificial light white balance". Do not know how difficult to implement this would be...
