Hi all,

Sorry for the delay, I wanted to reply to this thread a few days ago but coming back to normal life after Siggraph is being harder than usual.

We will make official statements about v3 in September. The reasons for not doing that now are many: first, we are very busy with the development and testing (I hope you guys are enjoying the summer more than us!) and we had not time for preparing enough high quality contents that show the v3 features as they deserve. The presentation we showed at Siggraph was a brief introduction with some v3 highlights, acceptable for a live demo but not for permanent online content. Second, things are a bit slower in August; some of us have to get some rest and spend a few days with our families and the rest are focus on dev & test, this is not the ideal month for announcements. Third, we have a set of around 20-25 new cool features planned for v3, but there are still 2 or 3 that could be included or not, depending on some implementation barriers we are trying to break these days. We do not want to announce things without being totally sure they will be in the final package.

Of course we cannot announce a fixed day for the release yet but we are putting all our efforts on getting v3 ready this year in Q4. In order to make the wait a bit more fun here we go with some of the images we showed at Siggraph:

We will post more images showing new features soon. Thanks for your patience!

Question :-) :
"Lenses" could be used for making panoramas?

Wow, even better sneak peeks than I could've hoped for.

Not surprised that MR seems to do volumetrics pre-release better than other engines that have been doing it for years. Also, that was not what I was expecting from "projected" images. Very cool!

The example you see is of one of the new lens types (spherical in that example) which creates a 360 spherical panorama image. So, yes :D

You have to attach lens to your computer during render. Accepts EF mount.

Lenses feature is niiiice 8)

Are these volumetrics similar or superior to what we saw being prepared in 2004 ?

About speed improvements:

For this new version we worked a lot in optimizing and improving render times. Those speed optimizations have been performed in different independent scenarios (scenes with instances, scenes with heavy motion blur, etc), so the obtained gain depends strongly on the scene.
You will find scenes that will render x3 times faster than today, while other scenes will render in a similar speed.

But in most cases you will experience a gain compared to v2 engine. The amount of the gain is what depends on the scene.

Great, no?
