I am trying to reduce noise, and I know to avoid triangular emitters. However, even when I create a plane in Rhno, using the plane tool, it still registers as 2 triangles in Maxwell.

How do you create a rectangle for an emitter, but not have it get converted into triangles for rendering? I gues I am missing something.

Adam,

Try using the mesh manager to control the polygons of the plane.

I must have missed it (or forgot), can you point me how you concluded that a triangular emitter will cause extra noise ?

Thanks,

Recommendations:

· If you are not interested in chromatic dispersion of dielectrics, put abbe number greater or equal to 150. Furthermore, you will get less noise caused by dielectrics.
· When possible, use as few triangle emitters as possible.
· When possible, avoid using high reflectances in materials. For example high saturated colors in diffuses.
· Always use a Maxwell camera.

Thanks, but i can't find this menu anywhere. It's from Rhino I assume? I can find the Render mesh settings, but Render Mesh Manager isn't even in the help file. HELP!
javascript:emoticon('')
Sorry to be a pest here.

Appreciated.

Adam,

You can type "MeshingManager" in the command prompt.
(This utility was developed (I think by Jeff LaSor) as a test and inlcuded in RhinoV3 but it will be further improved and more visible in Rhino V4)

Hi Thomas and Adam,

MeshingManager? that would be great but when I type MeshingManager I get: Unknown command: MeshingManager

Thanks, Nico.

I don't understand how do you want put polygonal emitter (or plane) to maxwell - maxwell requires only triangles, so eg. the plane is build up of two triangles. No chance to change it.

Nico, you will need to download the bonus tools to use that command.

I called Rhino tech support and it seems that render mesh manager is a plugin that is not easily found with Rhino. The guy emialed me the plugin and I had to install it. I have no URL either.

I can email to you if you send me a personal email, or can I somehow attach it to this forum??

ANYWAY, I tried it and it works, BUT Maxwell still reads a simple square plane as 2 triangles. I am worried- all my rectangular plane emitters in MW are being converted to triangles. causing a lot of noise for me and render time.

Any more ideas ?javascript:emoticon('')
