I was away for a few days, and let the render run as long as I got home. This is the result:

Image

Level 22.53 but in 42 hours, and its still too noise to be ready. I cant really afford a rendering time above 2 days, and this was with simple proxy objects. :(
And even worse, the image lookd much like this 30 hours before. The last 30 hours was a waste of good CPU time.

Ehm... just a question: Obviuosly this time you got the light through the door - so how did you solve your original problem?

Thanks!

Problem's still there, just read above. ;) I've replaced the detailed glass geometry with a box. This is not very elegant, but caustic remains.

But the render time... doh... I *want* a noise free image! I want I want I want I want!!

we are all in the same boat Aldaryn... Maxwell does not look "too" ready for closed inside rooms yet... but I am sure it will... once they come with a complex algori. to clear faster...

... and noise cleaning... well I don't want anybody to tell me about...

BTW, I noticed that if your iage does not clear after 18/19 level, if you let render more it is a waste of time.......

maybe put a pretty large 20w or 10w emitter just behind the camera... this helps...

BTW, Frances had problem too with a glass of milk that never cleared... even at 23 levels...

Oh, thanks for mentioning Frances! I had a thought about rendering the whole scene 4 times this big, and then scale it down is PS to get rid of the noise, but I've forgot what I've wanted to do. :)

I remember once I had an experimental project in VRay and had 20+ h rendertimes to get a decent AA at certain details, but when rendering the whole picture in 20000px resolution with crappy it took only one hour, and the scaled down image looked perfect!

It all depends... for instance, I had a room with a nice detailled tapestry, and rendering bigger, or any other tricks wont do it... we just need clean lean renders... we want it.... and we want it now... he he...

Early Sunday bird Aldayn..? I have to get a coffe right now... or I'll fall of my chair... he he... and maybe a croissant...

perhaps there is a tesselation issue when doing the boolean operation for the holes

depending on how the geometry is written , the pic posted would imply that the faces may not generate.

if i do the same type of thing in houdini, convex n-gons, they wont render correctly if you can triangulate the non-planar faces it may fix the problem you are having
