I'm trying to render one animation job. It's been a long time since I did this last time.

How should I export the scene to get the mxs files? The only way I know is through file > export. Is it correct?

Yes, that would be the best way. Also in order for the plugin to export the entire animation sequence, you have to set Time Output in the common render parameters either to Range or Active Time Segment and check the animation checkbox in the export dialog.
