hi,

i want to scatter a forest on a plane with 5 different random mxs trees.
do i have to create 5 scatter definitions now (thought they should have the same parameters) or is there an easy way to scatter these 5 trees with only one scattter definition ?

Currently the scatter modifier takes one object, or one MXS Reference. I guess you could in that reference place several trees, and it would scatter each reference but I think that would quickly become too repetitive looking.

So for now you do need 5 different scatter objects.
There is no collision detection at the moment.

(seghier, it's nice that you are so eager to give advice to people, but please make sure first you really understand what it is they are asking  )

thanks for your answers.

so i put this one on my personal wish list. I know this possibility from Vue, where you can select different objects to a list (with a percentage definition) and paint them onto a surface...

best regards,

so only one object and no collision control? Is there any chance to get this improved in NEAR future?
I think NL knows how tools like Multiscatter or ForestPack work today...
(a polygonal controlled distribution would also be helpful)

How should this work? By painting 5 different distribution maps without overlapping?!? Not really practical.

try it . it's possible
for example in sketchbook create one black layer
erase part from it and duplicate the result
erase other part from the new layer and duplicate it. than erase new part from the third layer ( you can use other methods )
every layer is a density map and you have seed option to get the best result

sure, why should it be NOT possible...?
but it is far from an quick, easy to use and direct adjustable solution... it is a workaround.
