Thx for answer. Quick Time no longer opens panoramas, stopped do it about v7. Thanks for the pano2qtvr, windows only :(
I wondered if V3 got some viewer for this included, maybe there is some recommended software?
try that http://krpano.com/

The third example of the projectors looks very nice to simulate pool caustics. If combined with "blockable emitters" you could make a projector that puts the light of the caustics only at the bottom of the pool without hitting any other object.

New material editor looks very promising for me - as I still feel as non-advanced user :-) Most of my (ArchiCAD) plugin wizard settings are also simplified.
As I saw on the movie there is a very short list for defined material type, shorter than existing Wizard. As it is designed for non-advanced users (me)
I wonder how it will work when I have to make ceramic, matte, porcelain, plaster and other simple material definition.

Looking forward to testing Pixar SubDiv. With regard to edge creasing, is it reading the 3d app's edge weighting settings or does it just progressively pull all edges tighter as you increase that number? I'm curious as not many apps properly support Pixar SubDivs. Modo has good control over edge weighting, Cinema has it's own edge weighting tool which predates Pixar's but isn't part of the Pixar spec. The really sweet advantage of PSubs in Modo is variable weighting along an edge so you can have a crease blend to a smooth surface. I suspect that won't be supported in Maxwell but I'd like to be surprised. Be good to see a sample of ZBrush output as mentioned in the video.

Hello Rafal,

All the materials you are describing (ceramic, matte, porcelain, plaster) can be can be achieved using one single new Assistant: Opaque material.
Once you select it, you will have the parameters that will allow you to create them, from ceramic or porcelain to matte or plaster.
Other Assistants will be: Transparent, Translucent, Metal, Emitter...

The Assistants encompass the main basic types, and we want to have no more than 7 or 8.
If we start to create separated assistants for ceramic, concrete, stone, ground, plaster.... we will end up with an unusable collection of 400 generic materials.

Keep in mind that they are not "presets" but "simplified editors".

this is logical and also emphasizes what I've asked before: give us a wide selection of fine,pre-calibrated materials in the default library. not just 20... more like, 200 of the best of the MXM library and some new good stuff from best maxwell users ...

Thanks Dario for clarification. It is important for me because usually I have no time for playing with materials, so it is my "achilles heel"

Hi choo-chee,

Reducing the MXM Gallery from its current 4000 to the Top-200 best materials is a completely different project than this new simplified editor feature.
Although it may be useful, this is not a feature included in this new release.

And yes, Rafal, we know materials are the "achilles heel" for manny users, so we are sure this will be a very welcome feature.

Cheers

8) the pixar subdiv could be really a game changer for apps without subd support like sketchup - if it works with the messy geometry produced by sketchup...
Has this been tested already?
I really hope for a better quad faces support in sketchup in the future...

I would not expect openSubdiv to fulfill wonders on meshes with irregular density and long spiky triangles.
It's no remeshing operation but merely a subdivision - irregularities will remain inside the mesh when applying
Loop subdivision.
