Q2 wrote:Hi Dario, great infos...so does that mean with the new MacPro with two Fire Pro D500 cards this will REALLY fly?

It really flies on any card as long as it can hold the MXI in memory :) Most cards today have 2GB of RAM so that should be ok for most render resolutions. 4GB cards are not uncommon these days and I would suggest one like that. Just a note though, because it may seem people misunderstand this - we are talking about being able to do Multilight adjustments of your render, including Simulens settings, in real time. Not that the rendering itself is using the GPU.

I am curios about real speed in this case. On V3 presentation as in short movie from new v3 site example shows MXS reference only.
What about complex geometry placed directly. Maybe I am wrong?
It doesn't matter if it's an MXS reference or not. That was just for the example to show that both are using the exact same scene. As the video shows even the initial voxelisation is much faster, and after that - as you adjust the emitter geometry in your scene or move objects around - the voxelisation will be almost instant :) For me, it's the part about moving emitter geometry that's the most beneficial. You can really light your scene now in an interactive way, and real emitters offer some advantages that HDR can't.

Hi Guys

I'd like to interject here because I see a lot of speculation about V3 pricing. First of all we apologise for the incorrect/incomplete information that has been posted by one of our resellers, they will now remove this list from their site.

For V3 we are introducing both a node-locked and floating license option, the former being a more economical version of the Maxwell Suite product for freelancers/users on just one machine, and it comes minus the networking tools. The latter is our standard Maxwell Render Suite floating license (as it is now for V2) but for V3 it will come with 10 rendernodes included.

For existing customers (of V1 or V2) you can upgrade to either the node-locked or floating version for 345€ and 425€ respectively, and the floating version comes with the 10 rendernodes included for free.

These 10 rendernodes with the V3 floating licenses are issued independently and irrespectively of any current V2 node licenses you own - they come for free, as standard with the package. This means that IF you want more than 10 nodes, you can then also upgrade any V2 nodes that you have as well (in packs of 5) for 295€.

This is the official pricing, I hope it clarifies the situation.

Many thanks

Jenny

thanks for clarifying the prices Jenny.

If I had just decided to upgrade from v1 to v2 recently as per your website it would have been 345 euros which would have included 5 render nodes and a free upgrade to v3 .

I don't need 10 render nodes , 5 is enough for me as in what I already have with v2.

So I'm getting a worse deal than someone who would have upgraded in the last few weeks to v2 as I would have to spend 425 euro's to get any network rendering ?

Or am I missing something ?

thanks

Ten free render nodes for such a small difference in price makes the second option a no-brainer... that is some serious added value, considering when I bought my full version of Maxwell 2 I didn't get any free nodes at all.

Best,
Jason.

425Euros = $575

That is a significant expense. You should re-think your pricing model, maybe adding the option for a subscription or charging smaller amounts for incremental updates. My budget for software is reviewed in context with all the other software I own (and upgrade).
At first it may not seem like much, but when I add into the calculation the cost of all the other upgrades, this is a significant out-of-pocket expense. I know for a fact that it would be some time before I bought this upgrade, as impressive as the software seems to be.

It would be be nice to hear from other users on this forum.

Note that for v2, as currently priced, is not just a Euro-to-Dollar conversion...

Will there also be a crossgrade option from node locked to floating?
I found friendly to give existing customers, who work on just one machine right now access to
more render power after a hardware upgrade and paying the price difference to the floating version.

For both V1 and V2 I bought more than one license but had to find out that I hardly ever effectively
made use of rendering on more than one machine. For that reason I'd this time tend to upgrade to the
solution for just one machine, but that decision was made a lot easier if one could change ones mind
later on, without getting punished.
