How do you use the pack and go tool from the Maxwell plugin, using SU 2013?

I want to put the model into the full Maxwell studio, but can't see how you export it.

It sounds like you may have the Standalone plugin installed; the toolbar for that version looks like this:

And the toolbar for the Render Suite plugin looks like this:

The extra buttons on the left side are for exporting to Maxwell, Studio, the network, or just to an MXS file (this is explained in more detail here). If you have Pack & Go enabled, the referenced files will be copied along with the MXS file, to the location specified in Scene Manager > Output.

Indeed you are right...

I have tried to install the maxwell render suite plugin but it says 'a newer version of this plugin is already installed'. I have deleted the old version from the plugins folder, and the maxwell.rb file, and I can't see another maxwell file so am a bit confused!

You will need to use Windows Programs and Features to uninstall the plugin; you may have manually deleted the files it installs, but Windows still considers the application as being installed.
