The most useful thing would be to select an image sequence as a weightmap, thats my highest priority. Further animation controls would be a bonus too.

Relying on embedding/conversion to generate mxm's is just... well, not very useful really.

Anyway, I dont hink were gonna learn much here unless someone has a succesful example to show... btw one example that works (in c4d at least) is loading a sequence of 32bit images to make an animated sky or TV screen..

Can I change the subject and raise a seperate request,..... self illuminating materials for 2d gobos because sometimes its nice to include some distant 2d trees / parallax treelines which need to be self-iluminating, but its not neccesary or desirable for them to act as emitters. Current workaround is to render the sky and distant trees as a seperate pass

Max can do it easily. Look at the "wetmap" on the concrete in the below animation. The wetmap sequence from Realflow is used as a weightmap between layers in a single MXM.

Here's a sneak peek at some of the new features
being announced by the Maxwell team at Siggraph....
Speed optimizations in large scenes
Alembic support
Deep compositing support
Procedural textures
Subdivision surfaces
Double-sided materials
API Extensions
Object cloner
New lenses
+ lots lots more!

So, that is it?!? no more info, pictures, video? :(

Bubba that animation was cool 8) , I guess the plugins handle conversion differently, its probably an issue with how c4d works internally...

@jc4d, I very much doubt materials will change in anyway.

Will be nice to try the 2-sided thin-sss,... time to make some trees :)

I'm with you on this. I know it's not an official announcement that they are making but it would be nice if they threw us faithful few a bone. Even if it's just a text explanation that sheds a bit more light on these things things, would be nice. If I remember correctly, this is how it happened for version 2.0 also. :(

It would be great if displacement is image based and not mesh based in V3.
In Fry(before it died)..you can have a non uniform mesh - and the displacement would come out clean and uniform.
I am not a displacement guru..but it was one of the best features Fry had. It is alot of work making a complex object in Maxwell displace evenly.

And yes I agree...some teasers from V3 will awake this forum again. It is a good selling tool also.

Yes, it would be nice to see some V3 stuff here as at the first place. I am not on facebook, I don`t use twitter, I can`t go to Anahaim (I would like to). I think many of us are here since alpha, beta, RC ... Some may remember "its friday" words conjunction, buffos complaints, Oscar answers ... I don`t want to complain - I am far away from it, I just want to say, that for me it was always something more than just about render engine. I like this comunity, I would like to meet people from here and talk to them... I had always feeling that we are witness of something revolutionary. And this enthusiasm was in almost every topic that I read. There wasn`t even "Off topic" section, because everything was "On topic"... Hope I am not too sentimental :) remember "old good times". I am looking forward to 2014 World soccer championship, and Spain team to win the final match to have upgrade my one V2 license, as I did with my V1 back in 2010. I wish to Next Limit team many invention ideas, many good customers, and to see us - old maxwellians as an important supportive comunity.
