Are you on OSX? It's certain that you can't open this particular file anymore? Do you have Maxwell 2.7.10 installed on all computers you're trying to open the MXS on?

thats kind of curious. i tried to open the file just before uploading - maxwell studio started and suddenly crashed after approx. 1 second, without any input possible.

@ work i use 2.7.10 (updated from 2.7) on 5 win7 pro 64 (1 standard license - 4 nodes). i tried to open the file on 3 of those workstations some days before. no success. but the error also occured some weeks ago on my own pc while working on another project using maxwell 2.7 @ win7 pro 64- system. in that case i was able to "repair" the file by copying/importing it into a newly opened file. but before that it also crashed on 2 machines.

mihai, do you use a freshly installed 2.7.10 (no updated 2.6.3/2.7.)? i think, but i'm not really sure, that all of the older machines on which i tried to reopen the file have an updated maxwell "on disk".

if i'm not to busy tomorrow i'll check the file on our 2 new hp-workstations, where i installed a fresh 2.7.1.

Maybe could be something related to viewport display....if you make a new default layout which doesn't have a viewport, does the file open ok?

This is way to random suggestion, but try to update your graphic card drivers if is like Mihai said about viewport display.

@mihai: this evening i opened the file i sent you from work successfully on my freshly installed machine @ home (the problems here @ home occured with another hardware-setup) . surprisingly no special settings were needed. as jc suggested i checked the stepping of graphics driver - the newest possible one was installed. nvidia 301.42 @ geforce 8600 gt (hehe...not the fastest card, i know. ) so i'll check the machines @ work tomorrow, they have quadro 600s running with older quadro drivers for sure - most of the machines were bought in february or march 2012 and got no update since then.

if an update of the graphics driver wont work, i'll try mihai's suggestions.

back again. checked the file on our workstations @ work. they ran with quadro driver 276.42/ 276.28 - updated one machine to the newest available quadro driver (297.03, no driver update -> new full driver installation). tried to open the file mihai and i @ home could open - no success. full app-crash after 1 second.

so went back to mihai's suggestion - closed the viewport and tried to load the file: with success! if the viewport is closed the file will open. so deleted the used maxwell grass modifier and saved the file without it -> opening the file again works fine.

also uninstalling the patched 2.7->2.7. and installing a fresh 2.7.1 does not fix the problem...same file, same crash.

so here the win error-message, unfortunately in german - but maybe it provides some additional info.

Thanks, so then definitely a problem with graphics card used and /or drivers. Could you check your viewport rendering prefs in Studio? Turn off AA, and also vertex buffers if they are active....post a screen shot of the viewport rendering prefs.

@mihai: sent you the screenshots! but even with other setting (w/o aa and/ or vertex buffers) the crash occured.

Any news on fixing the issue with saved files crashing on reopen ?
Can only use grass modifiers if I reapply them each time on the original 'grass-free' file........tedious
