i've just said that i dont see any reason for using maxwell for this kinf of render amd i confirm... looking deep at the render i dont see any particular photorelastic result nor in term of material nor il therm of lighting ....
thats just my opinion and i dont see anything cinycal or insulting about that

Why would someone have use a different render engine if the quality of the render is lower but the render engine itself is high end?

Oke well I had time to work on this little project and rerendered it in high res. It took almost 120 hours to get to SL 23.76 and there's still a little bit of noise in there, but that
was expected with this kind of scene :) so Bubbaloo you were right, it does take long to render haha ;)

Anyway I did some variations on color corrections so you guys could pick the one you like the most, or not one at all :)

I like the top one the most but that may be too dark again..

Very nice!
But there's something missing... and it's the way the light is being distributed - it's way too perfect. While, if you check out the real doors, the light's spread not evenly due to doors/floor/wall imperfections or simply because dirt and dust gets stuck under the door.
Don't get me wrong - just trying to push your pics to the next level of realism

I know what you mean and you're right. Imperfection on the wood of the door, the door not being as line straight as it is now, the light being scattered. Come to think of it, I would love to have
volumetric lighting right now! Maybe some dust in the form of little particles can do that :)
Bubbaloo wrote:Personally though, I don't like the clean renders as much. The grain of the first render looked really great.
Thanx, i agree, it added a sort of movielike mood to it, in my oppinion.

I don't think this project is over..

Are you just lighting it with a solid plane behind the door? If so maybe apply any type of HDR even if it doesn't really make sense...Just to help breakup the uniformity in the light coming through. Just find a random HDR and see if it makes a difference

Hi again, sorry for the late response. Had a busy week and my computer crashed while rendering so had to do the 100 hour render all over again :P

But this is the next result, some imperfections on the door, changed the size of the emitter and the position bij a few centimeters and that made all the difference. I think it has a lot more depth
to it now that the light shines over the floor more.

@itsallgoode9 I think this is what you meant with breaking up the light and getting it to shine more over the floor. Although I didn't use a HDR, Is this what you had in mind?

The red one new, it's a very heavy effect, but I liked it.

Wow. From the beginning of the thread I've really liked this concept and enjoyed watching it progress, but those last 2 images are beautiful. Love the effect on the wood - looks almost illustrative. Great job. :)

Very nice indeed! Both of them. It has been an interesting thread to follow :)
Maybe it's just me but the first impression I get of the top photo is the movie Matrix, and the "red themed" picture below reminds me of Christmas.
Just don't ask me why :S

Cheers
