I don't see anything all that weird about it, they are standing on a sandbar... it's only our human eyes that will take a random shape and give it meaning -- and for that matter you could just as easily say it looks like a crab pincher holding a teardrop.

To the birds it just looks like a group of birds, which is all it is... there is no need to be amazed anymore than you should be amazed that a cloud looks like anything other than a cloud.

This is a very strange point of view coming from an artist. There is so much more to see if you look with a child's eye.

I'm not saying it isn't visually interesting -- I just don't see why anybody would refuse to believe it is not "Photoshoped"... That seems a pretty cynical POV to me. Nature is full of all kinds of visually arresting imagery that defies our expectations. I guess my point was more that nature doesn't conform itself to meet our expectations nor does it particularly care what our expectations are.

As an artist I don't feel the need too often to make things "better than reality" -- reality is already pretty "fantastic" in it's own right.
