Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

You got some weird looking creatures crawling around in your country hyltom, that last one looks weirder than anything else you posted so far

Nico, the depth of field in the first shot is sweet, i like that :) but i kinda prefer the second shot with the snail in it. Keep them coming!

Soon.. very soon if all goes well and as planned i will also start contributing with actual photographs (not crappy cellphone shots) to this thread, i hope so. :)

I'm trying to enlarge the focus area but my problem is that i have to keep the shutter speed enough fast to compensate the trembling of my hands and the movement of the subject due to the wind. My camera has no image stabilization system. Also most of the macro are shot at a so close distance that the lens block a lot of light. I have tried to compensate with an higher ISO setting but over 800 i start to get some visible noise so i mostly have to shoot at ISO 200 or 400.

Shutter speed: 1/125 sec
Aperture: F5.6(praying mantis), F10(spider), F3.5(turtle shell beetle), F2.5 (ant)
ISO: 400
Exposure comp.: ±0 EV

With a small subject like the turtle shell beetle 4mm long, the aperture is set to F3.5 at best to keep enough light, it's very difficult to focus where i want. A few mm move and the subject is all blur. Maybe the solution will be to shoot with a white reflective panel nearby in order to concentrate more light on the subject. In that case i could increase the aperture. All this process is new to me, I have the camera since few weeks and i have never shoot so small stuff before. With time i will certainly improved my skill and technique.

Great macro shots! Looks almost like you used a flash but it's all natural light? I used to have a macro lens, was great fun :) With a larger focal length macro lens you won't need to get so close to the subject. If you plan on doing lots of them a macro focus rail would help: http://cgi.ebay.com/4-Way-Macro-Focus-S ... 4a988d488e

If the subject stands still long enough you can 'bracket' the focus, shooting several images with the focal distance slightly adjusted and then combine the photos so you get a much wider DOF.

For a very very long time i have not been able to photograph properly due to poor economy and equipment, or rather lack of it. However things have changed today, after much research, work, planning, stacking up money in my piggybank and more i have finally invested in a DSLR today. :)
I picked the Canon EOS 7D with a used Sigma 17-70/2,8-4,5 lens and a Sandisk 16GB UDMA memorycard. It was not cheap but it feels fantastic to finally own a real camera instead of the crappy cellphone camera i had in the past few years to shoot with. So as soon i got a grip around how it works and how i should use it and all that.

Here's a couple of cellphone pics of what my new equipment looks like and the first two testshots i fired off with it (not knowing what i were doing hehe). :)

:D hehee, thanks m-Que. Oh yes i've been waiting for this day to come for i think it's around 10 years now and finally i had the chance and it was a too good opportunity to miss out on so i grabbed the chance, bought it. :)
Ofcourse i will share, here's my first batch of testphotos i shot this evening when i went on a walkabout in the neighbourhood to test my camera.

I'm getting sharp shots even tho i only have this cheapo lens at the moment and i have not yet learnt the new focus system so most of my shots so far been out of focus hehe

And a short videotest, a shame that Vimeo trashed it when it reencoded the movie :(
