When setting up an emitter and setting the watts, there is a setting next to watts called efficacy. It has been set to 17. If it is ramped up to 50 the light has more than twice the power. I know what efficacy means but what purpose does it have? Why not just create a more powerful emitter?

When you buy a bulb it usually comes written in the box or you can check manufacturers' website, anyway, you can take a look at the materials that come with Maxwell installation:

Maxwell\materials database\mxm files\ateam's special\jomaga\

There you have a nice collection of common light bulbs mxms and a preview image. It's supposed to be made from real life data.
