Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

What I would like to know if what is the different between Swap's Technology and a Photoshop's action? Maybe I'm wrong, but to me is very similar to masking in photoshop having all channels(diffuse, specular, matte...) separated.

It's been a while... Does Maxwell offer diffuse and specular channel renders?

 Well, thinking twice,of course they are not the same. You can change tiling and scale. I think is time to go to bed.

It's definitely not unbiased in some ways.. for the indirect illumination it appears to just take an average colour of your new material. In the architectual video where they apply the checkerboard texture and change the tiling there is no effect on the indirect illumination when clearly having big black areas of floor would make a big difference!

It's a nifty feature if you might want to show LOTS of variation (ie far more than 3).

it should be handy for material creation also. Create a few pre-rendered swap scenes, these can be used as default material test scenes (interior, product viz, etc). Load a scene, create a material in swap, tweak in realtime till you've nailed the look you want, save your material. :D

I have to admit that it looks cool.

Not for the final render but when doing setup or when showing the pre-definitive renders to the clients could help sparing a lot of time.

We have to be honest, and admit when a feature is useful or not.

Maybe it's not in maxwell's philosophy, and the video shows it's absolutelly not accurate when it comes to interact whit other materials on stage but nonetheless it's surely cool!

I also think this is a VERY useful tool. In my opinion that would help me quite a bit to do variations for my clients. So far I have to rerender my scenes every time we need new material set-ups. This kind of feature would speed up my workflow tremendously! And time IS money!

Let's see what Maxwell 2.0 will deliver!

guys, guys, gurls, gurls,

stop staring into the sun... it is nice to dream gizmo things, but I would appreciate if you let NL concentrate on things that really matter to improve speed and/or productivity, like e.g. dielectrics that do some honor to the term "lightspeed", a realtime reflection preview (like in Modo, to name one), an accurate preview of the shift lens plus ability to region render the indicated area while shift lens is on, an interactive noise area optimizer (dunno where I saw that, but can't be so difficult to program) ... thinking, there was more, but I have a writers block now.... (and the very difficult-to-implement feature to keep the multilights in the multilight tab in the same order everytime you rerender  )

o and while I am dreaming... a UV tool for apps that don't support proper uvmapping...

It's about time for Nicole's christmas announcement, I hear the buzzing when opening the MW website, something is going on... something big... they even asked us how we would like the tutorials of this "big thing" presented... that means something, no? my guess, it will be early january, and at a price....
ok, enough crap, lets get back to work. long render hours are waiting...
