Hi everyone,

I am pleased to announce that every RANCH user (new or already registered) gets a free gift of 15 minutes render time (worth $58.14).
15 minutes on the RANCH is equivalent to 24 hours of render time on a Quad Core @ 3 GHz, so if you have a scene to render... now is a good
time to try the RANCH!

Cheers :D

I thought the following precisions may be helpful to clear any potential confusion about the 15 minutes free render time offer:

- if the job exceeds 15 minutes, you will have to pay for the difference. We offer exactly 15 minutes of rendering, so anything above is automatically charged.
- if the job does not use the 15 minutes, you will still have the remaining time for another project. It's like a mini prepaid subscription in fact, it lasts until all the time is used.

If you specify a render time limit of exactly 15 minutes, the project will always be longer than that because of the additional times (distribution of the project across the network, voxelization, and most notably gathering+merging the MXIs). So if you want to maximize your chances of not paying at all for a project, you must take this into account, and specify for instance 10-12 minutes of render time. Typical merging times are indicated on page 11 of the current RUG.

Cheers

Hi everyone,

I am very pleased to deliver some important - and hopefully very good - news from the RANCH :)

:!: the guaranteed processing power per project has been increased by 25%. We now have 128 quad-nodes / 512 cores / 1536 GHz working on each project. To put things into perspective, a 3 hours render on the RANCH is equivalent to a two weeks render on a 64-bit Intel Quad-core running @ 3 GHz, or more than a full week on a high-end 8-core Mac Pro @ 3 GHz.

:!: even more important are the new "Make Your Price!" formulas (you can see all the details on the Price info page on the RANCH site).

We believe the "Make Your Price" (MYP) concept is a real revolution in renderfarming pricing, as each user can choose the formula best suited to his/her particular needs and budget. For low-budget works, nothing will beat the Sapphire formula ($0.12 per GHz-Hour, that is ~ 8.8 €-cents at the current exchange rate ). The other formulas Emerald ($0.14 per GHz-Hour), Ruby ($0.16) and Diamond ($0.18 ) each have a higher priority, so you can choose one or the other depending on your deadline and your budget.

You can even change from a low-priority to a higher-priority formula as long as your project is still in the waiting list. And when you use the cost estimator, it now tells you the estimated cost with each of these new formulas.

It may seem too good to be true, but there is no trick:

- there is no sharing, as usual: the full power of the farm is always allocated to each project
- the price only determines the priority of the project in the waiting list
- these are really Pay Per Project, metered prices! :D

And each RANCH user now has a "virtual Safe" which works with pay per project formulas. It is initially at $0.00, and you can refill it any time you want. Using your safe is very convenient, as you do not need to go through the payment process each time you send a project.

:!: At the other end of the spectrum, for projects where deadlines are much more important than money, we have High-Priority prepaid packs at $0.19 per GHz-Hour - those have the highest priority of all our
formulas and are perfect for professionals who can't wait. And for pros who _can_ wait, our standard prepaid packs have higher discounts, up to 60% for big quantities.

:!: The benchmarks and the PDF Renderfarm User Guide (RUG) have been updated to reflect these important changes. The RUG is now in two parts for better clarity and easier maintenance: Part I contains everything related to the RANCH general operations, and Part II is application-specific.

We hope you'll like all these innovations, so see you on the RANCH and happy rendering!

when renaming the zip file in the windows explorer ( "xyz" --> "xyz.vum")
it stays an zip type file, isn't it ?

my windows explorer only shows the name of the file but not the file format...

im confused...

Hi everyone,

just to let you know that we are redoing all our web sites for 2009. It will take some time, but the first one to be ready is our Maxwell site!

anyone else had upload problems to the farm?
It's insanely slow at the moment (<10KB/s), and I'm not sure what to do to speed things up...

I have a fast SDSL line, and everything else (internet) goes smooth. And there is nothing else going on on my network ATM.

Kurts,
I had the same problems the last few days with the farm, the worst was downloading a 960mb .mxi, sorry no suggestions.

Hi,

the ways of the internet are inscrutable... We just did an upload test here and got a 6 megabytes (bytes, not bits) per second upload speed (fiber optics connection to the RANCH) so there is no problem on our end.

Also I recommend, when downloading MXIs, to download the 'MXI_splitted' directory instead of the single MXI. That way you will launch several transfers simultaneously, which is often faster.

Hi everyone,

I am pleased to announce that the RANCH renderfarm image sequence player FRAMANIP PRO is now FREE! It works with XP and Vista and exists in 64-bit and 32-bit version. Sorry there is no version for the Mac, as the program uses many specifities of Windows/PC hardware, and porting it to the Mac would require too much work.

FRAMANIP PRO lets you plays JPG, BMP, TIF, TGA or PNG sequence with incredible speed, entirely from RAM. I recommend you use the 64-bit version if you can, as you will be able to use all the RAM in your system to fit longer and/or high definition sequences. FRAMANIP PRO is very easy to use and has many useful options that I let you discover on the FRAMANIP info & download page.

- No registration is needed
- There is no spyware whatsoever
- And no installation procedure: one .exe does it all!

I only ask that you do not directly give the application to your friends / colleagues but point them to the FRAMANIP PRO download page on the RANCH site.

I hope that this gift will be useful to every 3D animator, enjoy! :D
