Are there any settings that I need to modify out of formz when I export so smooth geometry comes into Maxwell?
Thanks
Lance.
maxwell does only understand geometry which is consisting of triangles. my tip is to do this triangulation process manually withing FZ using the appropriate tools (especially using the
convert object,
triangulate and
object doctor tools). this gives you the best control over the process.
for testing purposes, the automatic conversion by plugin is OK, but to get the most out of your model, manual tesselation is always better and can cut rendertime down. remember, the less geometry, the faster! this is especially valid when speaking about glass surfaces.
before exporting as MXM, it is also important to check FZ geometry with the
object doctor - maxwell can be quite picky with bad geometry, especially if using SSS for example. apart a few exceptions, where single sided polys are useful (like emitters, billboards...), try to use well formed solids as much as possible. double sided planes can easily give troubles and coincident planes are definitly a no go. in complex scenes, the
project doctor tool will find geometry doubles for you.
