I would recommend that if the polycount starts to break Cineama - start using the xref feature in Cinema 4D.

And for Maxwell, you may think to export certain groups of things out of Cinema and to MXS, then reassemble in Maxwell Studio for the final rendering.
Thanks for the tip Tyrone.

The polycount is not a problem. So far i have around 1.4 million polys, and should be able to squeeze out at least 6-7 million.
Although i´ll probably not go that far.
I´ll only need to model one half of the building and drop it into a symmetry object. Saves a few polys there. :)

Object count is however another matter. I´ve previously made some fairly massive scenes and noticed that a high amount of objects is not a good thing. Once you start connecting them, Cinema works a lot better again.

Ok, after a short break i got to spend a few hours with the model, so time for another update.

I´ve finished up the main entrance part (minus the statues), and started modeling the sides, as well as some of the stairs in the front.

Another set. Working on another scene simultaneously, so this one is taking some extra time.

Two of the smaller domes done. Still need to finish up the roof section to the right with ornaments and roof plating, before i can continue on the sides.

Alright, did a test render with the pieces so far. Approximately 60% of the building completed.

Info so far:
570825 kBytes
2096054 (10952808) points
1768527 (9321588) polys
8046 (18484) objects

Numbers within parenthesis would be the true geometry without instancing and with editable objects.
So far it does render well, but it´s getting somewhat heavy, so i´ll probably split the scene in two and merge the renders in Photoshop.
