Sweeeet. I hope the day never comes, when we can't mod anymore. It has steadily gotten less though.

I have a new machine with Dual Xeon E5420(2.5ghz,1333Mhz,2x6MB,Quad Core) processors.

So 2 Quad-core processors.

I am disappointed at 20m24s at a benchmark of 525.40. Does this look like a likely result?

Windows XP Professional 32bit. This could be the killer I presume.

Also while I am here. Task manager only shows 4 processors in the CPU Usage History, is this correct? Is this an XP 32bit thing too?

My work won't allow 64bit because it will mess up the Anti-Virus Security we have apparently.

I don't know how true this is.

They bought me 4gb of RAM, which Windows will only allow access to 2gb???

Maybe it is using 8, but Windows 32bit doesn't display all 8! I am confused.

Are all your network PCs connected to the web? I find there's little reason to use antivirus software, especially if it's a work computer, where you don't try all kinds of niche programs.

I never use AV and don't really have a proper firewall, and i haven't run into any problems for years now. But i assume you can't persuade your superiors about this.

Not using a 64bit OS is a significant shortcoming in this field.

I am stuck using 3dsMax 7 still at work! Investment is an issue here.

I rendered the scene at home on my single Quadcore machine.

It rendered in 20m33s at a benchmark of 522.14.

It has an Intel Core2 Quad 6700 2.66Ghz LGA775 Processor. Also XP 32bit.

I am going to upgrade to 64bit at home soon.

There has got to be something wrong with the work one surely.

You should be getting around 10mins, that's for sure.
Did you mean to say you only get 4-cores showing in the task manager? If so it sounds like one of the cpu's isn't being recognised.

Check if both CPUs are recognized in the Device Manager. I don't think XP Pro 32 has a 4 core limitation, but i could be wrong.

Glebe, that's right Only four show. The same as the one here at home. Instead of the eight I expected to see. I am right in thinking Task Manager should show Eight separate CPU usage graphs am I?

Could anybody running 32bit Windows who has two quads do a screen grab of their task manager to show my IT geeks at work please?

I will tell the IT people this on Tuesday, after the Bank Holiday.

Very depressing day today. I had waited months for this to get sorted out.

Thanks for your replies so far.

Hope th office is coming along nicely! :D

Cheers mate, yes most of next week will be spent mixing concrete.

Ah the joys of office red-tape..... ......been there, got the t-shirt, and never going back to PAYE that's for sure. :D

Look on the up-side though, it'll be sorted soon and hey, you've got four cores 'til then & fingers crossed not too many tight deadlines. :) could be worse, at least they can't eat you.

I have posted my results for my Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300.
kkm could you explain the time difference between your machine and mine?
Your comment:"Bad BIOS 2.0 GHZ" ????
Perhaps you could give more details about your settings and hardware?

Thanks
