I am far from a computer geek , and I am looking to build a 8 core, looking at benchwell there are alot of choices but budget will only allow me around 400 bucks per cpu so the X5355 which bubaloo and others have is out the door .

I saw the E5335 which has a time of around 14 mins

so looking around online i saw the e5420 which is around the same price but it is 2.5 Ghz and 12 mb l2 cache, 80 w


compared to the e5335 which is 2.0 Ghz and 2 *4 mb l2 cache 80 w

to me it seems teh e520 will be faster .. am i right ? but the voltage ??? is lower on the E5420 does this make the difference ?

From what I understand just by looking at the specs, the Harpertown has more ghz, 45nm technology (which I think is an advantage with cooling issues), and more L2 cache. I have 2 dual dual-core xeon slaves that I want to upgrade to quads and I'm considering the 2.33ghz Harpertowns. I'm making extra sure that they are compatible with my motherboard and case before I buy though.

Wish I had them right now.

i just looked on new egg and there was a quadro for around that price ...

maybe the 590 or something... but i could have easily made a mistake
