Why was this moved to off-topic, then moved back to general discussion?
Irrelevant!

p.s. i'm gonna do these one-word-replies more often from now on, they're awesome.

Just curious ...
My complains always do, don't worry

displacement that won't triple the rendering times
Impossible!
I didn't say "won't change the rendering times..." but a big change to rendering times would make it just useless.

... i am not waiting for significant improvement in render time.. i think that there has never been and that wont be never because of the nature of the render engine itself...
,, i am waiting for the fix of all small or medium bugs ( sometimes very trivial) that summing up each other make the workflow much slower than should be
... that is true also for my plugin (LW) of course... a release with the displacement but that doesnt fix those bugs would leave myself really disappointed
I don't care much about displacement too... Displacement is very useful for product renderings... I do mostly exterior architectural images. I think you're right, an improvement to workflow issues would make a big difference... That's why I want better plugins and of course a better (much better) material editor...
What is very important for me is better dielectrics and caustics... (pool water for example or night shots of buildings.
Other than that, I think we'll get almost the same thing we have now...

and what about the wishlist? just a thought...

A wishlist is just a list of what I, you, 100.000 people want... I don't know if you are familiar to Revit and AUGI forums, I read them every day for 2-3 years now... The wishlist is always growing and Adesk adds only 1-2 features from one release to the other... I have stopped posting for wishes... It's pointless.

It's not pointless in this forum.
I have had several wishes implemented.
You have to keep in mind that the wishes that get implemented are the ones that are better for the group as a whole and not the wishes taylored to the needs of a few.

I think unbiased engines are gonna choke on intense displacements because so many rays get stuck in cavities and bounce until they lose energy. Biased engines terminate them much earlier which reduces this problem.

You have to weigh the benefits of modelling time vs. displacement rendering time.
Also, since Maxwell handles a large amount of geometry well, using actual geometry displacement of a heavily subdivided mesh from Max can work just as well and render faster.
