Everything related to Maxwell network rendering systems.

Hi all -
Had a cooperative render running last night and lost two of three segments because a network switch cacked out in the night. I am trying to do a resume render on the .mxi on my local/manager machine but it doesn't seem to work. Can you actually resume a render if the .mxi was part of a cooperative? Can you even resume the merged result of a cooperative render? I can't seem to find a clear answer on that but it looks grim from here.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

Maxwell cooperative does not work with segments, all nodes render the image entirely with a diferent internal seed. When merging, the image gets smoother with less noise and higher sampling level. So in that sense an mxi that is part of a cooperative render is just a normal mxi.

So, you have to look for mxi in local computers (operating system's temp folder defined in environment variable) and try to merge them.
But it won't work in all of the cases because some of them might be already merged and you'll be repeating seeds when trying to re-merge them manually.

If there aren't a lot I'd look for the highest sl and try to resume it.

Why aren't you able to resume the mxi, by the way? does it gives you any error?

Hi Beatriz - thanks for the quick reply.

Sorry, wrong choice of words I guess. By segment I meant one individually rendered mxi from the cooperative render. I have taken the one that reached the highest sl and tried to resume it. There was no error message, but it asked me for the associated mxs, then began the voxelization process again. That reached 100% and it just stalled there and hung for about 30 min before I shut it down.

(it is a big render: 5Kx2K with several emitters and Multlight is on - the mxi file is around 3GB)

In any case, I take it from your reply that I *should* be able to resume any individual one of the mxi files generated in a cooperative render?

What about the merged result of a coop render - can that be resumed later as well?

Thanks,

Hello, yes, any MXI can be resumed.
Except when doing "File->load image" or "File>Save MXI". Those MXI will only have image information. But any MXI generated by a render can be resumed no matter it is a cooperative, animation, frame...

What you cannot do now is to use cooperative networking to resume a render (several machines resuming an mxi). But you can resume the result of a cooperative render with a single machine.
