By saying "a bit slower" I was just beeing nice to my macpro 8 core. I couldn't believe it when i saw that this mac still get's beaten by rustebergs 2.66 quad core. BUMMER! BIG BUMMER. But what the heck. I am still happy to have gained a spot in the top ten!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

'Happy Birthday' -ish :D
actually the image was noisefree after 2minutes
Probably it's too much I'm asking for, but would it be possible to show how it looks like after two ( ) minutes of rendering?
I mean, who needs SL16, when you're viz is done within two ( -still can't believe it-) minutes of rendering...

the scene was at sl 10 after 2 minutes...

so just render it to sl10 and you know how it looks on a macpro after 2 minutes;-)

materialpreview...almost realtime, hehe...
the mac is best pc i ever had again.

cheers

Mesut, ......it's true -- for the quadcore and 8 core people, most of the time their looking at a clean render.

This done on my snail-like 2.33 8 core. (25m in the Speedtest)

Stefan,
thanks for the SL10-Info... After you said that, I started the render, but after 10 minutes of rendering and still 13 minutes to go... :(... there came:
Chris,
thanks a lot for this visualization. :D

Very impressing demonstration that is. I could stare at this gif quite a while... it must be a great joy under such circumstances.

I congratulate you 8 corers on your 8 cores. :D

...I think I can stop my testrender now... after 15mintues and SL8.55...

Thank you and your welcome, .....I've wanted to do that for quite awhile now to let others see what's actually going on.

....it really is quite impressive.

Here is my render speedtest with the new Maxwell Render Version 1,5 on my 3.0 GHZ Quad MacPro :

CPU: Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Clovertown" 3.0 GHZ
Cores: 8
Ram: 8 GB
OS: X10.4
Time: 0:21:25
Bench: 308,55

Compared to my previous rendertest this seems to run faster than the 1.1 version. THATS COOL!

Put together an x64 box for just a few pennies over $1K US.

Overclocked Q6600 @ 3.0 ghz. 2 gigs of Dual Channel 800 running at 666 because it actually is faster than at 800 (memory and cpu straight multiples of 333). Cheap video card and leftover CD-ROM. CPU hasn't gotten over 36C. (I have a cold basement.)

Running 32bit Mxwl because 64bit gives me a benchmark of 60.

Benchmark: 188.97
Time: 34:29

I figure you could build two of these and buy an extra node license for $395 and still be at $2400 US with an equivalent benchmark of 380. :)

Box #2 has a better MOBO so the RAM timings are a little better.

CPU: Quad-Core Intel Q6600 @ 3.0 GHZ
Cores: 4
Ram: 2 GB
OS: x64
Time: 0:34:03
Bench: 193.45
