Why the aggression you people?
Sitting in front of glowing, noisy boxes half the day i assume

I have to agree with ivox3, stop wasting your time and invest in something you actually like.
What still puzzles me though is why Chris picked ivox3 when ivox wasn't taken, and even more so, why only ivox3 passes Firefox's spell check

damn fine questions ....

I wanted ivox, .....but it wouldn't let me --- ???

So the 3 is for the 3 cats that also do CG work around here ...

The spellecheck thing is most interesting. :)

Plus, I have the fortune of working with 1.2, and I know what's in the pipeline :)
this just reminds me of you saying basically the exact same thing only hours before the first rc came out. finding out what actually was in the pipeline back then wasn't that great, or was it?
BOOOM!!!!!!  :!:

I reminded that night, almost as 9/11!

Ciao, Gio

P.S. And what about PC/cores policy?

So where are the Tora renders ?

Edit: Add Andretto to the short list.
That is very kind of you to say that Ivox, thank you very much. Be sure that I have still some things in store for ya.
And oh yeah, to all other folks here: You should talk less and create more artwork instead (no matter in which software). :)

Kind regards,

Tora

You are very welcome Dave ! and thank you for your good comments.
It is always fascinating of being reminded that some of the images in the gallery have an impact in fellow artist's decisions.

Incidentally, back in the day (the very beginning), it was the keytoon renders (Jonathan / Sytron) that sealed the deal for me. Those images, had the most exquisite photo-realistic perfection ever encountered by my eyes on a computer image at the time.

yes, I guess those keytoon renders were most impressive, and back then it was basically what draw my attention.
but I guess it was maxwell as a kind of whole new idea of rendering that caught me. that and the amazing community that I found on these forums. it was really inspiring and incredibly fascinating posting, and reading stuff, and having to do with all the people around here.

I have to say Tora's and TomAn's images helped convince me to buy, but there was also a fiber optic image in the gallery that blew me away, not because it was a beautiful render, but because it wasn't "faked". Plus I've never really understood why other render engines use terms that don't necessarily relate to real-world situations (like setting up a camera and not having the option of f-stops, iso, etc.) or having lights with arbitrary units…

ok, i am both a MW and Fry (happy) user and i don't want to get into the who's-better-who's-best BS.

i use fry in production (and MW as well, of course) and i've some work i'm definitely happy with, fry has many cool features that MW should (and let me stress the word SHOULD) have, fry seems to have up to now a faster development and all the best things i can say about fry...
but let's face it: in the last 2 years absolute artworks have been posted in this forum like in no other i'm aware of. period.
and i've learnt so much here that i feel i owe you all something preciuos.
so thanks mates, from the deep.

(i just wish i'd see less arguing and more great images, cause i know you can) :)

ciao,

thanks JD, i think that render of mine is a good one, but zuliban's one is just spectacular and every single time i see it, that just makes me wanna cry hehehe

PS. did you notice that all those (and in previous pages too) are beta's?

That makes sense, ...as people were adopting Maxwell early-on, ....the alpha/beta images would of been the ones that made the impression.
I'm sure there's 1.0 images that are doing it for newer users.

I think he's saying not just logistically that it was beta, but that it was the "beta look" that motivated a lot of people. 1.0-1.1 has a slightly different tonemapping than beta did, which has been tested and demonstrated by no shortage of users to change the way the low-mids and shadows are rendered. A lot of people, myself included, think this is ultimately where the "beta" look resides, if that's your thing. 1.0 isn't "incorrect," but beta's tonemapping is felt by some people to be more photographic.
