Using the great Ivy generator, which after some tweaking and Blender, has been rendered with our lovely MXST.

Venus model via 3DWorld mag:-

Poser model:-

Not sure how to get the leaves to grow down instead of up, but a few more tests should solve this. EDIT - I think if I rotate the leaf texture 180', the leaves should be the correct way round.

More to come, just getting used to the process.

Thankyou. this is my first work for three weeks. I've been off sick due to stress from my proper job, but have now sorted my life out, including a new girlfriend. :D

Mxm will be available soon, not sure about redistrubuting the textures, but I have made bump, normal, roughness and transmittance versions of the original textures. So perhaps this might be a way round it.

The first image has only one leaf type, the second has matching mxms for the adult and young leaves.

More soon, thank you for the comments.

Thankyou my friends. :D

Another version of the second, this wasn't how I intended to use this model, but it seems to be working. Another Ivy root added, which I left calculating for 40 minutes. 1200 branches. Sunlight lit as first were hdri lit.

Leaf texture has been rotated by 180' to fix the leaf direction error from the previous renders.

Image

1million tris, three ivy sets of 250, 840 & 1200 branches. Each grown as seperate objects from seperate 'root' points. Individually exported to Blender and then imported into Studio.

Will decide what I'm going to do with this, I think a nice garden scene or similar.

Leonardo, Photos of my girlfriend & our recent trip to Scotland will be added to the daily photo thread in a couple of days. ;) GF approval should not be a problem. ;)

Luke, the 3DWorld objects are great for just working on a specific area without having to model as well. My organic modeling skills are somewhat non-existant, so Poser etc is a great help.

MXMs tomorrow too, if I can remember to upload them.

Not sure if anyone else has had the same problem though.

Just to make you aware, the Ivy generator restriction for commercial work has been lifted.

Tim,

I've followed your tutorial in the new Maxwell magazine and call me stupid but I'm lost on how to apply each material to its specified object. Say, branch material to the branches only, leaves to the leaves only.

I'm using the Max plugin and not working with studio. Is there a way to do this when everything imports as one object?

Thanks
render engines and Maxwell
