Is there any possibility of previewing a custom mxm material in the viewport so you can actually see the way the material is mapped on the object?

I am not an experienced user, but up to now I found it quite difficult to get a certain reliability in texturing objects with mxm materials without seeing the texture before rendering.

I had this same question, and no one seems to be able to answer it which probably means there is no way as of yet. If you use a custom mxm material that has textures on it I believe you will have to also create a cinema material with the same textures and put it on your object. Then drag the cinema material tag from your object manager into the texture slot of the mxm material that you also have tagged on your object. This material system seems to be the biggest flaw still left in the plugin. Everything else works pretty well.
