I really don't see how that is possible; there are still so many things that need fixing not to mention all of the features that aren't implemented yet. I'd be surprised if we see RC6 by that time.

They have alot of work be done, ill be real suprised if they release the final in march. They need to speed up rendering times and get rid of noise quicker first.

It just means that they are still moving forward.. so every bug fix, addition, etc. is welcomed...
I'd prefer the final finished V.1 but, I can live with a RC 6

April 1st would sound more credible.

I guess RC6 is near (less than a month) but v1.0... maybe half year or more; I don't think it's so finished. That's my premonition. :P

Do I sense that the positive vibes seem to be diminishing again around here? ;)

I agree with Maurizio. It's better to let NL continue their work and wait patiently. After four unstable Release Candidates I'm very happy with RC5, so my urge for updates is satisfied for the moment.

Only thing I miss lately are Tom and Mike's frequent test renders that make you drool about the things Maxwell will bring us.

Cheers,

Yeah, I tried that - it led to basically people complaining that they weren't impressive enough; "probably because it's not as good as beta" blah, blah, blah. I've had enough of that. ;)

I think it's very believable.
First with the Beta, and then with the first few RC's, Next Limit has shown they are more than willing to release a product "as is" just to hit a self imposed deadline, then introduce fixes at a later date.
The previous comments that not all the listed features will make it into Maxwell 1.0, but instead be added through the MR-1.x lifecycle also point to NL having a firm release date in mind, else they wouldn't release it until all the listed features were complete.

Lets face it, if NL release MR-1.0 on March 1st, even if it is not feature complete, and still has some long standing bugs, it will allow them to crank up their marketing machine a notch (providing a quick revinue injection), and will give them some breathing space to work on some of the trickier "not included in ver-1.0" features.
OK, so some people here will complain loudly that MR-1.0 isn't complete and/or buggy when it's released, but that appears to be water off a ducks back to NL

I'm sorry but if NL does release V1.0 full of bugs they are going to get a verbal lashing like they did when RC1 was released except I expect it to be much worse.

I guess I'll be bending my promise somewhat by making these few statments but que sera.

Even if Maxwell is release without any bugs (which in the computer programming world is like coding nirvana), NL has admitted that they're going to back off of having certain feature available until version 2.0. So in a sense, V1.0 is going to fall short of the promised capabilities for those of us who bought into MR very early on.

However, I do see even RC5 being a vast improvement for somethings. It has already proven itself as a viable renderer (notwithstanding speed) for product design and engineering (and maybe even rapid prototyping which I know is a stretch given the current core's speed). So it has it's uses in this regard.

For architectural visualization purposes, maxwell will be 'usable' however, it seems that there is still going to be a heavy dose of post production work needed for noise removal and compositing caustics through glass (1 render with glass + 1 without = maxwell archviz). So in a way, it's not as unbiased, as I'm sure it is still being touted to be.

With that being said, for me, Maxwell is going to be simply an alternative or option for whatever project requirements I may have. I'm not going to rely on it so heavily that anything short of nirvana will cause me to storm the castle doors nor am I going to completely dismiss it because like everyone else this is an investment in my professional career (NOTE: not putting word in or defining anyone opinion or approach on this matter, just stating my own).

All we can do I guess, is adapt and adjust. Maxwell at this point is simply going to be an alternate method, sometimes better, sometimes worse, good for somethings and bad for others. Yet isn't this true of almost all software?

So if MRV.10 falls short of it's promises all I can say is roll with the punch.

Since I just love balancing on the NDA wall so much...

We've been testing some obvious fixes and a few new surprises, but I know there is tremendous pressure to release a 1.0 a.s.a.p., whatever it is. Let's face it, Maxwell was due in October, and NL just can't hold out indefinitely. My best guess is that we're going to see a 1.0 sooner rather than later, and a bunch of free post-1.0 updates in as short a period as possible.

Again, this certainly isn't NL policy I'm quoting here, but I'm not sure how else they will balance all the factors. There are a lot of features coming, which need time, and there's only so much time they can wait to release a 1.0., e.g. 1.0 comes out and patches are issued as development continues. If it were my company, I think that's what I'd do at this point. The list of features in the total Maxwell "vision" is pretty amazing, and you just can't wait until they're all in there to release something, especially when even at its current stage, it's getting a lot of work done for a lot of people.

I've never been an NL "apologist"... but I can not tell you how utterly and completely bummed I would be if anything were to disrupt the natural evolution of this software. I know about, and have seen actual sneak previews of upcoming features that are so jaw-droppingly cool I can't believe it. No matter how cynical you are, Maxwell's only just getting started and these innovations really need to see the light of day.

P.S. Ernest you and a handful of others have been promising to sue NL and "take action" and file a class-action lawsuit, etc. etc. for just about as long as I can remember. Will you guys please just stop talking about it all day long and go do it? I keep reading these "Okay guys, I'm calling my lawyer, email me" posts and nothing ever happens. You guys make these apparently rock-solid cases for how NL is engaged in criminal conspiracy and you've got lawyers who agree so let's have it already. You're right, you're being bent over the sink, now go pay your retainer and ante-up. Otherwise your arguments about NL's credibility become laughably hypocritical, don't they? Personally, I don't think you've done the math, expense-wise, but that's just me...

Wow, that has to be the coolest thing I've ever heard you or anyone else say on this forum, good job.

Well, granted I think my post did have somewhat of a cynical tone but the jist of what I was trying to express was that I would just work within the capabilities available so far. for other capabilities (such as sss) I'll use another render package. (even you have admitted to not using MR in your current production line - be it for whatever reason. You simply have to use what you have to get the job done). Wasn't meant as your typical NL dig or anything.

I guess right now my most major concern is NL creating such as massive problem that it won't make it to future releases of MR (not trying to be apocalyptic, just honest). I mean, if you have enough people like Ernest (who I can't deny his right to be upset nor would I ever), and they do go through with a lawsuit of some kind (which in some respects they'd have a legitimate right to), I would be afraid that this would/could cripple the development of MR.

Bottom line for me is, I want MR to work. I believe you when you say there are some jaw dropping things out there coming. I just hope it makes it there. In the mean time I'll do what I can with what I can.

Oh and Mike, can you answer with any certainty wether or not there will be an RC6?(granted I know you're somewhat under a hush order so if not, no big deal) I thought RC5 was going to be the last of the RC's before one?
