Well, I'm *really* glad that it is working, and I'm also relieved that this picture is the very first with that hard to describe "beta feeling". Although you personally might not use it for architecture and don't care much about the sun simulation, obviously the majority of the professional user base just needs this. I would rather add it to the FAQ than the feature list though *g*
If I didn't know better, I'd say you were disappointed it was a successful test.
Don't worry, we will find other things to rant about :D

Again, thanks for the test, you can let this cook for a couple of hours because in fact this is indeed a picture that made history in a sense ("first public pict to show sunlight through dielectrics").

Cheers and thanks

We already told it is NOT the same engine but based on it.
It's sad that you don't want to understand the difference.
...and moreover RS2 is based on RS1 too, what's strange here?

buffos, i don't rush, i said maybe i won my bet !

i just find that what we see is promising, but i want to see more and want to see it on my own computer, as you, i bet :D

Yep, promising is the word. 4 hours and noise...

Promising.

Frankly, speed is really not the biggest of my worries.... far from it. I couldn't care less if an image cooks on a machine for a day if the setup for that image saves me or somebody else hours of expensive work.

Workflow issues are far more important to me, the quality of the SDK and the plugins are a major concern, the structure of material libraries and their use will have a major impact.

Noise is a thing most people deal with, and a thing that "normal people" tend to overlook anyway. Speed might increase if we are closer to release, but I think that a solid feature set is the primary focus right now.

i'm kinda lost here..... is this "feature" worked in beta?
i made some tests , and the results are these:

well, seems to me that the problem is viewing from the outside, not from the inside.

mike, can you please do a render from the outside?

thanks in advance,
nuno

what settings do you have for the dialectric material?

i used the standard "glass - crown of borosilicate BSC1" with color changed to rgb= 200,200,200... same for teapots.

yes, one of the big problems was there was no way you could see the caustics produced by sunlight through a glass object.

even though this is an emitter test the caustics through glass problem is there:

Yup and that using the caustic layer caused hellish noise problems:

ok....now i understand!
i turned off the caustics and voilá:

please mike, can you turn off the caustics in your scene? thanks.

you can't do that, the sunlight that passes through a glass object is a caustic. you can't see any light if caustics are turned off, as in your example.

don't know, the max plugin has such an option, but as long as i can tell it never worked.
