Help with networking render nodes

I have two computer setup to aquire the ip address on start. I can't get the maxwell to see the other computer as a render node. Do I need to have static ip address in order for maxwell to find the other computer? Both computers are on a common work group and I can remote desktop back and forth. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
