Controlling reflectivity in Glass

I wonder if someone can help me out...
How can I reduce the reflectivity in Glass? I've been getting pretty good results with the wizard glass (not AGS) but I'm not sure what to change to reduce the reflection.
And on a semi related note, I've been toying around with using a "vacuum" layer on the bottom of something so I can make the actual layer I'm using semi transparent. (a) Is this a good idea? (b) what settings produce a vacuum?
Thanks for the help!

ps- here's an example of a rendering I just completed. I added transparency to the image I mapped onto the object across the street, but that shoots beige-orange light onto the subject which is a little sub optimal
