help with instances in studio

Hi,
I have a very large scene (3000+ objects) in studio, there are instances. I can see the instances on screen, but even with instance mode set, proxy 100%, display all, shaded etc. I can't for the life of me seem to actually select an instance. It's frustrating because I'm looking right at it...'You need to have aluminum applied' and I would be done!
Any tips?

You have to first select the object the instances belong to, then you can select them in the viewport or the Instance panel.

Ok, that helps, I'll try, but my problem is I cannot find the parents easily? It's so much more complicated when the objects list contains 1000's of bodies and many many copies exist on screen it becomes very difficult..
*edit, ok so I can select them that way, but can only tell by watching the instances panel, is that correct? i.e. there is no on screen feedback or highlighting of the instance.
Thanks!

It may be easier if in prefs for Instances you set it to Selected object only, and set their display to Textured for example, or some other display mode than what you've set for the viewport. This way you can just press the down arrow on your keyboard while in the object list panel to quickly go through selecting an object, and you can see the instances appear in the viewport.

Ok thanks for the tip. And not that I don't 'totally' appreciate instances! lol, but I just found an impossible situation (I think) with my scene. Where a subassembly that is about 70 objects (which I grouped) also holds about 100 instances inside it. I need to move both the objects and multiple parent instances at the same time. As far as I know it's impossible to move instances of separate parents along with this group. So in my case I need to go the no instance route I believe.
