render threads

Hi all,

when rendering high res imagery on a single mac (spec below), I find that for the first third or so of each SL all threads are used and for over half of the remaining render time the cores drop off to one.

I've tested switching 'saving to disk only at end' as I thought the single core might indicate that the large file is being saved out after each SL.

Mac Pro
2 x 2.93 6 core Intel
16GB RAM

Cheers

After a couple more test renders, it appears that if I hide all of the glass objects, the processors are consistently flat out.

Do you have simulens turned on in the render options? Turn them off as they have to be calculated at each update. Better to just have them off when rendering, stop the render, turn simulens on to check how it looks, turn it off again, resume the render.

yeah, good idea, I might have had that on for this job.

I'll check this when I'm back in work.

Cheers,

Hi Mihai,

all threads are flat out now. Thanks for the tip.
