Any help? - Can't browse, nor load nor use IES files

Hello there,

the IES or LDT files are greyed out, when I try to access them via Mxed or Studio.
It seems like the file browser does not recognize them. So they are greyed out and can't be selected.
The mxm browser shows non of the IES files when I navigate to the folder.

Is there a workaround? Can anybody help?

Thank you
Umdrehung

P.S.
I am using the latest version of Maxwell Studio (2.6.10) and the latest version of OS X Lion (10.7.3).

In the material editor - Studio or mxed, you can add an emitter to a layer, then from the emitter panel you can open the IES files, and it shows a preview graph.

You can render a preview (emitter.ies) in the material editor and save that as an mxm for easier browsing later. Personally I would avoid the mxm-browser and just use thumbnail icons in Windows like any other files. You can drag-n-drop mxm's into the materials panel of Studio.

I am assuming it works the same on macs.

Hello Eric,

thank you very much. That's it. Creating a new material and loading the IES into an emitter layer.

I thought the Material Browser is able to show a preview of the IES files and load handle them like mxm files directly.
But now I will follow your tip and I will create my own IES library, render a preview and use the thumbnail icon to identify them.

Best regards

Glad its sorted Umdrehung.

I've been meaning to make an ies library with previews too, but I'll prob never get around to it... has anyone else prepped one to share? bit optimistic I know :|

I made some (from the sample files shipped with Maxwell) a while ago -- you'll find the links here:
