freezing/slow opening mxms while rendering

Hi,
I did a quick search on slow+mxm+open but was unable to find posts about this issue.
I've used maxwell professionally for 3 years in almost all of my ID projects and my workflow is to use only mxm files, although I work with 3dsmax for scene setup. One of my problems is that whenever I am rendering, mxm files open very slowly: first a freeze for a few secs, then once it's open everything is normal. It's not to blame on the computer being to slow, as I can easily launch a 2nd, 3rd or 4th render at the same time, without any freeze. This happens no matter how small the render in process is, multi-light or not. Whenever I open an mxm file I notice a quick flashing dos-window that does something, but it's to fast to read or it doesn't print out what it does, but I suspect that whatever is happening there is causing it - seems like it's waiting for some sort of response that it is not getting quick enough, whenever a rendering is in process.
This freeze makes it a pain to adjust materials whenever a rendering is in process, which is almost 100% of the time, when I work in 3ds max (I launch one and then set up the next scene, or tweak the material after I seen them on the product)
Any ideas? Is this just my computer? Or has this been brought up already and resolved?
Thanks for any help,
Johan
