Invalid Bit Depth

Hey - not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I'm just trying to embed channels in an image format. I've tried targa, tiff, and EXR all with 16 and 32bit output, but every time I render I get the error of "invalid bit depth" and the channels are not saved in my file, from what I can tell in photoshop. Whats a functioning workflow for embedding channels in an image format? I just can't get it to work right. I think the only one I've been able to get to work is Alpha. But I can't get MatID or ObjectID, and they're all set to 32 bit and embed is checked.
Using the lastest plugin for 3dsmax 2012

I think that invalid bit depth is an error message saying the channel bit depth in render options is not compatible with the bit depth of the render image? So they will automatically be set to whatever bitdepth your main render is in. For the embedded option, as far as I know Photoshop can't read layers of EXR files. You would need this plugin:
http://fnordware.com/ProEXR/ to be able to read/write layers in exr format.
But why not just load the MXI in Photoshop instead?

The files were actually for After effects, I just wanted to peek at it in photoshop to see if it worked. I'm still surprised by the bit depth error though. From what I can tell its all set right!

What are your render/channel options?
