Bubble wrap simulation

Hi,
has anyone out here successfully simulated bubble wrap packaging plastics? I suppose, it's got to be done with displacement mapping?
Any hints welcome!

i'd say displacement is correct, which should be pretty easy since the bubble pattern will be tiling

I have tested this long time ago in both Maxwell and Modo and displacement kind of works but since you displace the surface the bubbles will appear solid and not filled with gas or air as they are in real life. It will look a bit odd. If you have no need for closeups you can use a good normalmap instead.

Thanks! Yes, the air inside them bubbles... tricky material that is. I try normalmapping first, and then displacement.
