Maxwell flame rendering

I am experimenting with a flame emitter, based on an mxi image (converted from jpg). The flame itself is coming out well, but it doesn't seem to flood the surrounding area(tabletop) with light. Image emission intensity is set to 1200. Any higher and the flame becomes overexposed. Is there anything missing in my shader or setup? All the render layers have been enabled...

Your help is very much appreciated!

Are you also using Physical Sky to light this? Because even if you turn it down a bit it will be a lot stronger than the MXI emitter. Did you try with ML on to see just the MXI emitters influence?

If the emitter is applied to a flat plane, it will only emit light in the general direction of the plane's normal. If you curve the plane, the light will disperse over a wider area.
