Caustics questions, please advise!

hi,

1.)if i turn off all reflected and refracted caustics, i assume this will affect only highly reflective surfaces, right?

2.)Or will other materials be affected in the rendering as well? i am doing so to eliminate light bouncing off glass display cases onto walls and floors(but i still seem to get this, or some of this).

3.)My glass is high grade from wizard, but i also Check "Hidden from Global Illumination" in the Maxwell Attributes for my glass objects since i don't need shadows from the glass as per Fernando Tella's useful thread here: http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... 6cab0f50c1 96f09f0547bb4a1e33&start=15) and i want to speed up rendering.

4.)I am also assuming that turning off all caustics would speed things up. Does this seem reasonable?

Much thanks-

Peter

i can't reply to my own thread, but i figured that if it looked like someone DID reply, I might get some interest in my question....

I think there is a transition between what is considered caustics and what is considered reflected light and that's why you may still see unwanted light spills even with caustics off from semi rough materials.

I'm not sure by how much it would speed things up, I think it's very scene dependant of where those caustics appear, if they are in turn reflected by other reflective surfaces etc, but generally speaking you should get faster renders.
